The food processing industry has been the target of considerable technological innovation, particularly during the past two decades. This study attempts to examine various aspects of the agro-food sector in the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) countries and to enhance the promotion of environmentally sound technologies (EST).
Environmentally sound technologies in the context of pollution are "process and product technologies" that generate low or no waste, for the prevention of pollution.
